Anna dressed in blood review

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story.
Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

Anna dressed in blood is what you call a Not-my-type book, but then after my friend's review about this book. I changed my mind. When I read the first few pages it was amazing. I'm the type of reader who likes to play safe. I don't read horror or books like 50 shades of grey. This book isn't horror enough to scare me LOL, but at the part when she and Cas first met I had goosebumps all over my back. I stopped reading for a moment then closed the book and I found myself looking at the cover photo, a girl dressed in blood which terrified me to open the book again. Funny, right?

At the first few chapters I held my guts and got ready for the scary scenes. The writer didn't put much horror in the book, and it was useful for a girl who hates horror. I'm grateful that Anna didn't scare me as much as I expected. It was simply my imagination that terrified me.

The plot worked out pretty well. There were many twist and confusions near the ending like when Anna didn't like Carmel at first because she thought Cas and her were dating. It was cute. It's rare to see a ghost fall in love with a ghost hunter. Anna was more human than a ghost except the part when she kills people and the part when she's covered in blood. It looked quite good on her, not everyone suits the color red.

I was a bit disappointed because the romance was at the ending already, but it's not that I only read romance, but it just kept me waiting and that's one of the reasons why I give it 4 stars. The romance was slow paced.

Let's talk about Anna. She's was what you would call the moody-ghost. She may have her sweet side, but don't get her pissed or else you're screwed. It's adorable that only Cas can get near her. I can't believe they were having a real conversation about killing each other. I kept laughing when I read that scene. Who would want to talk about that? They felt comfortable with each other. I wouldn't get comfy with a dead person...no offense, Cas. ;)

Cas is so dense, I swear. I can't believe Thomas and Carmel knew how Anna meant to Cas and that's why he had a hard time trying to kill her. It still irritates me that he kept asking himself the same question. It was so obvious that he was head over heels for Anna.

This question still stands "WHY DIDN'T ANNA KILL CAS?" I guess I'll find out next time.

The ending was so cliffhanger. I can't believe that Anna's gone. It was heartbreaking after Anna and Cas got together, Anna had to sacrifice herself. At the end Cas promised that he'll find her again. No mortal has ever stolen his heart, but a dead girl did, and he's not letting her go not ever...not this time...

This is definitely not your ordinary ghost telling stories. Don't let the pretty girl covered in blood scare you. The book simple enticed me. :))

Buy this book it will do you some good.

  1. I loved Anna and Cass in this book. Unfortunately, I started reading the second book, The Girl of Nightmares, and couldn't get into the story :-(
