I looked down at the paper, still touching the tip of my shoe. I reached for it, flipping the page over to look.Scrawls of ink outlined a drawing of a girl lying on a bench.
A sick feeling started to twist in my stomach, like motion sickness.
And then the girl in the drawing turned her head, and her inky eyes glared straight into mine.
On the heels of a family tragedy, the last thing Katie Greene wants to do is move halfway across the world. Stuck with her aunt in Shizuoka, Japan, Katie feels lost. Alone. She doesn’t know the language, she can barely hold a pair of chopsticks, and she can’t seem to get the hang of taking her shoes off whenever she enters a building.
Then there’s gorgeous but aloof Tomohiro, star of the school’s kendo team. How did he really get the scar on his arm? Katie isn’t prepared for the answer. But when she sees the things he draws start moving, there’s no denying the truth: Tomo has a connection to the ancient gods of Japan, and being near Katie is causing his abilities to spiral out of control. If the wrong people notice, they'll both be targets.
Katie never wanted to move to Japan—now she may not make it out of the country alive.
My thoughts....

Katie Greene moves to Japan to live with her Aunt Dianne who treats her like her own daughter. She meet awesome friends, Tanaka and Yuki. Katie doesn't fully understand the culture of her new life. She suddenly gets caught in a bad breakup scene...Katie is sure that everything Tomohiro did at the breakup was all too fake. She's determined to open that bad ass facade. This is going be messy really inky and dirty. Katie sees things moving and that only happens when Tomohiro is near. That can't be good. If people find out, they'll both become targets of a dangerous group.
It was a good thing I wasn't too eager to read this book. I wasn't 100% sure this was going to be a disappointment. Amanda Sun wrote it exactly like a manga, but with no art just words. I mean exactly like a manga. I'm dead serious. As a manga addict and artist I wanted to read INK. Prepare to be disappointed. This story is so cliche....not cliche like YA, but cliche like manga cliche.
I didn't like the personality of the protagonist...she's weird I might say. A stalker much, though she's American in the story she's your typical Japanese highschooler with blonde hair. I'm a teenager myself and I do not want to be like Katie. She's irritating and a snoop. I wish Amanda Sun wrote a story that was more of American and less Asian. Not being racist, but it wasn't impressive.
If you want a quick look about the story; insta-love, bad connections, original plot, well-written, cute and cliche. There was nothing surprising in the plot. The bad ass facade of Tomohiro was too open. I could already tell he wasn't a douche. I already knew what was going to happen next. Oh gosh! The story had so much potential. This is such a let down. The beginning, middle and end were all lame.
Getting to know the real side of Katie brings slut into my thoughts. Tomohiro is the brooding hunk...cocky and cool, but dangerous. All the same hot guy traits. *Sigh* Enough of my constant rage. I did love the writing style of Amanda Sun's it was effortless and cool. The Japanese dialogue were original and I could easily understand them since I've been reading manga all my life, but manga can never beat real novels.
I'm still looking forward to the next book and I hope it's better than the first. I'd recommend this to all the manga addicts out there! 3 stars for INK!

I didn't really mind how cliche the book is! Or maybe that's how I feel now because I'm not yet halfway through the book. Same as you, I also read manga ever since I was in high school! So the Japanese terms used in the book wasn't that hard to understand. I got to admit that Katie was being a creep! With the constant stalking and all.. Ugh, sometimes that girl gets into my nerves. And yeah, I also thought that it was insta-love, which was a disappointment on my part cause most manga I read takes time for the love interest to loom and because I assumed that INK is like the other mangas I read. Nevertheless, I love the Japanese setting and the easy-to-read style of writing!

Insta-love was basically the ONLY reason why my rating dropped from 5 to 4. Nice review, Chyna!
