Blog tour+Review: Phoenix By Elizabeth Richards

Phoenix (Black City, #2)Title: Phoenix (Black City #2)
Author: Elizabeth Richards

Pages: 368

Weeks after his crucifixion and rebirth as Phoenix, Ash Fisher believes his troubles are far behind him. He and Natalie are engaged and life seems good. But his happiness is short-lived when he receives a threatening visit from Purian Rose, who gives Ash an ultimatum: vote in favor of Rose’s Law permanently relegating Darklings to the wrong side of the wall or Natalie will be killed.

The decision seems obvious to Ash; he must save Natalie. But when Ash learns about The Tenth, a new and deadly concentration camp where the Darklings would be sent, the choice doesn’t seem so simple. Unable to ignore his conscience, Ash votes against Rose’s Law, signing Natalie’s death warrant and putting a troubled nation back into the throes of bloody battle.

"You thought we were defeated. You thought I was dead. But you were wrong. I am alive. I have been resurrected. I am Phoenix, the boy who rose from the ashes." -Ash Fisher

My thoughts...

Thank you so much, Kate, for lending me her ARC for Phoenix and for inviting me to join this tour.
*I do not rate books during blog tours*

The reason why I accepted the invitation for the tour was because I loved how Black City was written so of course I was excited for the sequel, but for me Phoenix did not reach my expectations...some did, but some failed. But alas Elizabeth still remains as the Goddess of twist. She never fails to surprise me which is why I also enjoyed the book. I did not dislike Phoenix if that's what you thought, but I was just somehow expecting a more grasping character. I loved Ash and Natalie in Black City, but I was on the edge of disliking them on Phoenix.

I felt like the story came too fast especially the romance, but I loved how Elizabeth was able to squish a love triangle. It was needed in this story and at some time I came to love the Bastet, Elijah. He's the cat-like boy who was saved by Natalie. Ash doesn't seem to eager to have Elijah putting his arm around Natalie's waist. I'm still on Team Ash, but Elizabeth rushed the development of Natalie and Ash's relationship, She did not slow it down even when their relationship on the first book progressed as quickly. When Ash asked for Natalie's hand it wasn't believable. I think the story would have a greater success if the proposal was pulled back maybe on the last book. But I am no author, just a suggestion.

In the sequel of Black City the story became more gore and bloody. There will be a lot of deaths and heartaches. The violence kept me on the edge of my seats. It's hard to entertain readers with many violence, deaths and blood, but Elizabeth was able to pull it off. Just to warn you, you will ache really hard and maybe gasp a lot. I really love Elijah, but I can't say the same for Giselle. Oh! how I hate that Fragg!

So what are the bad points in the story? The progress of the romance and the speed of the writing. There is such as thing as fast-pace and running coyote. Phoenix falls on the "running coyote". But the good points in the sequel is the action and blood! Oh how I love a blood! (That sounds wrong in so many levels.) So to all of you who love action? You will definitely enjoy Phoenix.

By the way there will be another cliffhanger. ( I know what you're thinking) "The agooooonyyy!"

Today’s 60 Second Interview is with the leader of the United Sentry States, Purian Rose. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to join us, Your Excellency.

1. Please describe yourself in three words.
Must I? Fine. Devout, powerful, pure.

2. What’s your favorite pastime?
What sort of question is that? I don’t have time for hobbies. I’m fighting a war!

3. *squirms in seat* Erm…cats or dogs?
Dogs. Next.

4. What’s your favorite food?
Honestly, these questions are insufferable. I don’t have a preference. Food is just something to nourish myself with. Nothing more.

5. Tell us a secret about yourself.
Why would I do that?

6. What are you afraid of?
Nothing. My soul is pure, so I have nothing to fear.

7. Who do you love the most in this world?
*jaw stiffens* That is none of your business.

8. Who do you hate the most?
The Darklings.

9.  Winter or summer?
Winter. I’m not fond of the sun.

10.  If you had one wish, what would it be?
To rid this world of impurity, so we have One Faith, One Race, One Nation under His Mighty.
