Galen is the prince of
the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with
fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen —
literally, ouch! — both teens sense a connection. But it will
take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen
to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that
she holds the key to his kingdom . . . Told from both Emma and Galen's points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.
My thoughts...
(This review may sound very sloppy)
The story begins when Emma and Galen bump into each other with a BANG! Galen, as the a royal, he has a mission to find a girl who has the "gift" to communicate with fishes. Emma was just minding her own business with her best friend, Chloe till a shark came to play tag on the beach. It did not end well. Galen is still not convinced that Emma is the one and he is totally not falling for her. He can't. He just can't. Doesn't mean that will stop him though.
I have been dying to read an aquatic story since forever. These concept are very difficult to find and create. I was elated to find a mermaid story. The eerie cover says it all doesn't it? I'm sure a lot of readers got to enjoy Of Poseidon, but for me I didn't hate the story nor did I love it. It's very difficult to make a negative and positive review without any spoilers. I will not be mentioning any spoilers so fear not.
From the beginning of the story I was already comfortable with the characters, but then Anna Banks created different points of views that I got confused to who the reader/I should be. That mistake caused her a star. I would suggest that she should have written the story in third person. It almost made me hate the writing style.
The romance in the story did not create that oozing feeling as I read. It's cute and hilarious, but not hot and sexy. As disappointing my review may sound Of Poseidon is NOT. THAT. BAD. It had a few rust on the plot and character developments. Fair enough I had already connected with Galen and Emma. The story gets better as soon as you go deeper, but Galen can be frustrating. As of now my favorite character would be Rayna since she's the most badass-colorful-toenails-lover-fucker ever! I love her to bits.
This review sounds more negative than I thought it would be. I'm still unsure if my rating for the book is rewarding or displeasing. In Of Poseidon you'll get to know that women are not treated the same way men are.
In the story I couldn't care less about Galen and Emma's interaction. What I did not understand was how Galen suddenly have this obsession on Emma. Putting that aside I also want to talk about the characters. I wish that Anna Banks would have written more about Chloe like how deep Emma and Chloe's friendship is. Chloe didn't seem significant at all. She was just...there.
And also can I mention that there is a cliffhanger involved?
What needs to be improved:
1. Point of views (Suggestion; third person)
2. Romance.
3. Character Development.

I also gave this book 3 stars, for all of the reasons you listed. I just felt like Galen had an obsession with her. I will read the sequel though and hope the series gets better.
ReplyDeleteWow is it fate you posted this TODAY, because I got it for review TODAY. Haha. Shame it didn't jump out to u, thanks for a honest review :)
ReplyDeleteMermaid stories just never fully pull me in. This doesn't sound too bad, but still seems to be missing something. What a shame, great review though :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a library book for sure. I want to try a mermaid story but this one just doesn't sound amazing enough to buy. Great review!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the "supernatural" type books and usually read about vampires. While I thoroughly enjoy those, this was a nice change! I highly recommend it! Great love story.
