Review: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

Tessa Gray should be happy – aren't all brides happy? Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net shadows begins to tighten around the London Institute. A new demon appears, one linked to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. And he needs only one last item to complete his plan: Tessa.

The Shadowhunters are desperate to find Mortmain before he strikes. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her. For though Tessa and Jem are now engaged, Will is as much in love with her as ever. But their small group cannot stand alone, and the powerful Consul doubts Mortmain's advance. The Shadowhunters find themselves trapped when Mortmain seizes the medicine that keeps Jem alive; now it is up to Will to risk everything to save the girl he and Jem both love. But Tessa is discovering her own powerful true nature. Can a lone girl, even one who can command the power of angels, face down an entire army?

The Shadowhunters are pushed to the very brink of destruction in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

My thoughts...

If I were to describe this book in one word, I'd say it was BRILLIANT. And when I say brilliant, I mean the beginning, the middle, and especially the end. I found this book to be an exciting, emotional, and lovable read. I mean, I have to admit, I got really emotional while reading the parts where Jem/Will professed their love to Tessa in their own remarkable ways. I rarely cry in books, but this one kept me tearful all throughout, with the anticipation and shocking twists and turns that drew me more into the story.

I was waiting to read this book ever since I finished Clockwork Prince long ago. And I was pleased to see that even though it was a long time in between the books, the author was able to remind her readers of who was who, what was the problem, etc, and I applaud her for her wit.

Clockwork Princess was a definite page-turner. I couldn't stop reading it, and I finished it faster than expected. Well, with all the drama and action going on, how can one stop? Haha. The romances between Jem, Will and Tessa has really evolved compared to the previous books, and kept the story lively and made the readers want more. Although for me, I think that the author focused too much on this and was not able to expound more on what was happening between the Shadowhunters and Mortmain. I wish that she could have written a better, more eye-popping ending to the conflict, and I think the Shadowhunters won too quickly.

But the ending made up for that! I was weeping uncontrollably in this part, I don't  exactly know why, maybe because the ending was just too...perfect. *sniff* I expected Tessa to have no other choice but to pick between Will and Jem, but the author made sure that Team Jem and Team Will BOTH will win. That's all I'm going to say for the people who haven't read this book yet. ;)

I give this book a magnificent 5 stars!

  1. I read this one too! (Here's my review.) Loved it! The relationships - between Jem and Will and both of them and Tessa - is what really made this book so great to me.
