TEA TIME with China Chyna!
Basically this is a Book Gossip Segment.
Now let's talk books!
Anonymous: Hello Cheena!
Chyna: Chy-na...my name is pronounced like the country, China.
Anonymous: Have you recently read any title recently, Cheena?
Chyna: CHYNA! C-H-Y-N-A. Is it that hard? Ugh! Never mind...and yes I have.
Anonymous: Are there any titles that you've despised?
Chyna: Despise is not a common word to me. I dislike books not pour my hatred out to them.
Anonymous: Interesting...*Cough* Liar.
Chyna: I'm sorry? (Chokes on tea)
Anonymous: Oh nothing, love. So what book would you love to recommend to your friends?
Chyna: I would love to recommend Let The Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger, the book wasn't perfect for me, but I loved the hilarious and romantic scenes that drew me in.
Anonymous: I'll take note of that. What about something you wouldn't recommend?
Chyna: Interesting question. Usually when I dislike a book I would stop reading, but I hate DNFs. If you'd like to avoid DNFs I'd say Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater.
Anonymous: Thank you so much Cheena!
You must read:
Seventeen-year-old Vane Weston has no idea how he survived the category five tornado that killed his parents. And he has no idea if the beautiful, dark-haired girl who’s swept through his dreams every night since the storm is real. But he hopes she is.Seventeen-year-old Audra is a sylph, an air elemental. She walks on the wind, can translate its alluring songs, and can even coax it into a weapon with a simple string of commands. She’s also a guardian—Vane’s guardian—and has sworn an oath to protect Vane at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing her own life.
When a hasty mistake reveals their location to the enemy who murdered both of their families, Audra’s forced to help Vane remember who he is. He has a power to claim—the secret language of the West Wind, which only he can understand. But unlocking his heritage will also unlock the memory Audra needs him to forget. And their greatest danger is not the warriors coming to destroy them—but the forbidden romance that’s grown between them.
Why?:
When I saw this copy outside my local bookstore, I knew I had to have it. After I received an email from the publisher about this title the cover drew me in. I love this book! I'm sure some of you will too.
I do not recommend:
For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without.Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human… until the cold makes him shift back again.
Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.
Why?:
This title was lucky enough that I even took the time to finish the book, but I just didn't like to pacing of the story and the characters were very dull.
Interesting post, Chyna! I've already read these both. I wasn't a huge fan of Let the Sky Fall, but I really agree that Shiver isn't a book worth recommending. I didn't even bother finishing it...

Loved this post. Your thoughts on Shiver made me LOL so hard because I totally feel the same way (I can't believe I actually gave the trilogy a chance and finished all three books). I'll check out Let The Sky Fall next time I stop by the library!
ReplyDeleteI liked Tea Time with Chyna! It was cute <3 I actually have Let the Sky Fall on my shelf. I'm glad you liked it, I think I'm going to bump this one up on my summer reading list. OMG, I'm so disappointed. I loved Shiver - it's probably one of the most memorable reads I've had to date. Sorry, you didn't like it as much as I did :'( Thanks for Tea Time!

I have heard good things about Let the Sky Fall. It's on my TBR, but I haven't read it yet. I loved the Raven Boys, but couldn't get into Shiver. I only read the first 20 pages or so before putting it aside. I always wondered if I should go back to it, but never got around to it with my towering TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteI love the new header, Chyna!

Oh, every time I see the cover of Shiver, I get the chills. I dislike that book so much! I have been wanting to read Let the Sky Fall. I'm now more excited for it!
