Review: Fate's Fables by T. Rae Mitchell

Fate's Fables (Fate's Journey, #1)Seventeen-year-old Fate Floyd loves adventure –– as long as it’s enjoyed from the comfort of her couch. So it’s probably best she has no idea the future of the universe rests squarely on her shoulders.

Summoned by a desperate stranger’s spell in a last ditch effort to fix a colossal screw-up, Fate’s cast into a secret world bound by the ancient Book of Fables to retrieve a magical object powerful enough to set everything right. The only problem is, once she’s inside this savage wonderland, her only way out is to change the endings of the book’s eight dark fables into their mirror opposites. Fortunately, she doesn’t have to run this gauntlet alone, because she meets the mysteriously familiar Finn, who’s as inexplicably drawn to her as she is to him.

As they endure horrors beyond imagining, Fate awakens to powers she never knew she possessed and Finn questions his very existence, while an insidious darkness changes him in frightening ways. Ultimately, Fate must confront the faceless evil concealing itself behind the eyes of her one true love or remain trapped within the Book of Fables forever.

My thoughts...

I believe that Terry's writing style was very descriptive and it has a lot of imagery. The beginning might have been very slow at the time and there were several holes in the beginning, but that was to be expected. I want to thank Terry Mitchell for giving me a review copy, I don't think I would have read this story if she hadn't emailed me. I don't regret reading Fate's Fables since I rarely enjoy fantasy. It might be boring and dull to the youth since there taste is rather different from the olden times. I dare say that this story was brutal and immersing.

Fate is the author of the best selling novel, Magick Brew. It put a smile on my face when Terry made Fate an author in the book. Fate is a young and gentle woman who has been sheltered by her loving father, Eustace. But that wasn't the beginning of the story. Meeting Finn a young sexy stranger got me grasping for more. They both find a giant book in Fate's grandma's bookstore, but one fatal abracadabra poofed them inside the story. The only way she can get out of this story was to change the horrendous endings to happy ever after's.

I  loved how Terry Mitchell made her readers want to connect more to the characters. I needed a good laugh from the story. Sithias will just keep you laughing, he lightens the mood every time. His scales may be cold but his heart is warm. Terry made sure her secondary characters had some spotlight. I thought it was fair since most authors just focus on the protagonist and the antagonist. Finn and Fate's friendship was something deeper than I have ever imagined. The first question I wanted answered was why was Fate so enthralled meeting Finn? It's like she was captivated or  like she has seen a ghost.

I won't be giving any spoilers I'm so sorry. If you want to read the book please enter the giveaway below and it's international. A lot of readers will unquestionably enjoy this book. Though it pains me to say this...there will be a cliffhanger involved. I wanted to tear my eyeballs. Those are one of the tricks that authors created so that there readers would start begging for the sequel. Gosh! Terry why do you torture me???

*Cough* Other than me crying over the ending. If you loved The Lord of the rings or Game of Thrones, I'm sure you'll enjoy Fate's Fables. This book deserves 4 stars from me. I can't wait to read the next book.

1. What was your reaction when you finished your book?
This question made me laugh because there were so many times I thought I was finished with the gazillion rewrites I’d already done only to realize, nope, there’s still more to do. So when I actually had the printed copy in my hands, I was sort of dumbfounded. It didn’t seem real. I’d been waiting for that moment for so long and then when it finally came, all I could do was stare at my book in disbelief.

2. If you didn't choose to become an author what would you have become?
Well my first career choice was to become an artist, which turned into a graphic design career and later morphed into writing. But if I hadn’t gone into writing fiction, I’d have to say interior decorating. I love to transform any room into something beautiful.

3. Will you be writing another series soon?
So far the Fate’s Journey trilogy is the only series I have in mind. But ideas are always percolating and one of them could very well end up starting another series.

4. Hot chocolate or milk?
Anything with chocolate comes first on the list with me.

5. Who is your book boyfriend?
I’d have to say Finn McKeen. When I started writing him, I fell head-over-heels in love. Besides being gorgeous with a sexy Scottish accent, he’s strong and protective, deeply connected to nature, spiritual and brave.

6. How was your childhood? Any stories you would like to share?
Other than moving around a lot while I was growing up, my childhood was fairly average. I was most happy when we moved to my grandfather’s ranch in BC for a few years. I had a horse and lots of land to ride him on. It was very rural with a lot of history still in existence; full of old homesteads to explore and plenty of arrowheads to hunt for.

7. So far do you have any regrets in 2013?
No, I’d have to say I’m pretty pleased with how 2013 is going. Especially since I started the year with the launch of Fate’s Fables.

8. Has writing become a passion for your or it's just fun to do?
Both. It’s an absolute passion for me and truly fun as well.

9. Who inspired you to write?
J.K. Rowling sparked the fire and Garth Nix fanned the flames.

10. Shout what you want!
Wear a smile - one size fits all!  :D

11. Do any of your book characters relate to any of your friends? or were they inspired by people you already know?
None of my characters directly relate to anyone I know. I’d have to mine are amalgamations of characters I love and adore from books, TV shows and movies.

  4. Both are classics. I love them too! The second fable from Fate's Fables, called a Dark Faery's Love, is similar to Beauty and the Beast in the way a girl's acceptance of a beastly fae creature transforms him into a man she can love. Although the ending is tragic. But that's where Fate comes in. She has to change the fable into a happily-ever-after. :D
